CALGARY — With Father’s Day on Sunday, WestJet has unveiled its latest tearjerker of a video that will not only inspire you to call your own dads with greetings of love, but also hold your kids extra close to your hearts.
The video profiles the remarkable Hunt family of Clarenville, Newfoundland, who recently got the dreaded news that son Darian has leukemia. His father Troy, who serves double duty as Darian’s hockey coach, recounts the struggles his family has had to endure while his son receives treatment in Toronto.
With help from Ronald McDonald House and WestJet, the Hunts – who had to leave behind their daughter Kaiya in Clarenville during the treatment process – were able to reunite as a family – and a team. Having heard of family’s struggles, WestJet agreed to fly Kaiya and Darian’s entire peewee minor hockey team to Toronto for a movie and a pizza lunch.
Tears fell, hugs were held, and through it all Troy stood ever strong as a hero to his family. Watch the video here.
Happy Father’s Day to Troy and all special fathers across Canada!
