CALGARY — WestJet has announced updates to its winter network serving both British Columbia’s Fraser Valley and Hamilton in Ontario.
FRASER VALLEY
The expanded schedule serving Fraser Valley features strategic new routes that directly connect Abbotsford to popular sun destinations in Mexico. Abbotsford-Puerto Vallarta will run 2x/weekly starting Dec. 5, while Abbotsford-Los Cabos will run once a week starting Dec. 4.
In addition to its sun schedule, WestJet will provide nonstop connectivity between Abbotsford and Alberta. Abbotsford-Calgary will run daily year-round, while Abbotsford-Edmonton will run 5x/weekly, also year-round.
With frequent service to Edmonton and Calgary operating year-round, the airline will ensure that Fraser Valley is one seamless connection away from its 787 international hub, granting seamless access to travel across Canada, the United States, Central America, Europe and Tokyo.
“Abbotsford was integral to Swoop’s success and remains a valuable part of the WestJet Group’s future,” said John Weatherill, WestJet Group Executive Vice-President and Chief Commercial Officer. “As we work through this transitionary period, WestJet’s service from Abbotsford will be centered on our strategic focus of providing nonstop connectivity to the sun destinations we know our guests rely on us for to escape the winter cold.”
HAMILTON
The WestJet Group has served Hamilton for 23 years. Though its integration of ultra-low-cost carrier Swoop has resulted in a reduced schedule serving the community, Weatherill says the company’s commitment to the city remains steadfast.
“Hamilton was integral to Swoop’s success and remains a valuable part of the WestJet Group’s future,” said John Weatherill, WestJet Group Executive Vice-President and Chief Commercial Officer. “As we work through this transitionary period, WestJet’s service from Hamilton will be centered on our strategic focus of providing non-stop domestic connectivity to Western Canada and the sun destinations we know our guests rely on us for to escape the winter cold.”
In June 2023, the WestJet Group confirmed that it will be integrating Sunwing Airlines – which it had acquired in May 2023 along with Sunwing Vacations – and Swoop into WestJet’s mainline operations.
Hamilton’s winter schedule will include the following:
- Hamilton-Cancun, 3x/weekly starting Nov. 25
- Hamilton-Punta Cana, 3x/weekly starting Nov. 26
- Hamilton-Orlando, 3x/weekly starting Nov. 24
- Hamilton-Tampa Bay, 3x/weekly starting Nov. 24
In addition to its sun schedule, WestJet will also provide nonstop connectivity between Hamilton and Calgary, operating 4x/weekly year-round.
“We sincerely value our strong partnership with Hamilton International Airport and the Hamilton community who have strongly supported both WestJet and Swoop over the years,” added Weatherill. “We remain unwaveringly committed to engaging with local stakeholders and community members to expand and reposition our investments to best serve the city, for years to come.”
