NEW YORK CITY — Another day, another holiday video by an airline that will turn you into a sobbing mess.
This one comes courtesy of British Airways, which recently surprised four very deserving kids and their families with a whirlwind weekend trip to New York City, Kevin McCallister-style!
Inspired by the hit movie ‘Home Alone 2: Lost In New York’, the trip included a VIP flight, a stay at the world-renowned Plaza hotel, shopping at famed toy store FAO Schwarz, a visit to the Rockettes show at Radio City Music Hall, and special guest appearances by singer Pixie Lott, Millie Bobby Brown and Jon Culshaw as President Donald Trump.
The children, all from the U.K., have all recently been through trauma. Belal Cherbika, a 10-year-old boy from London, lost his home and several of his friends in the Grenfell Tower fire in June 2017. Nine-year-old Bradley Ball was in a car accident with his mother and older sister, who tragically died in the crash. Mayana Brown, a nine-year-old from Surrey, recently learned of her mother’s cancer diagnosis, while Sophie Walker, an 11-year-old from Edinburgh, was diagnosed with a brain tumour in October 2017 and is currently in remission.
This once-in-a-lifetime trip, dubbed ‘A Very Kevin Christmas’ and captured in two separate videos (one a short movie-style teaser, and the other a longer chronicle), kicked off the airline’s #BAMAGIC100 campaign, which includes 100 acts of kindness throughout BA’s Centenary year.
Alex Cruz, British Airways’ Chairman and CEO, said: “New York is a magical destination to visit at Christmas whether you are a child or an adult, so it was the perfect place to stage our most ambitious BA Magic surprise yet. As our films reveal, the children have had to cope with very challenging circumstances and their stories are moving and inspiring in equal measure. We wanted to give them and their parents a magical start to Christmas they will never forget.”
Customers are encouraged to visit www.britishairways.com/bamagic and write to British Airways with their story for a chance to receive a touch of BA Magic in 2019.
