LOS ANGELES — Viking has taken delivery of its newest ocean ship, the Viking Mars
Following an official delivery ceremony on May 12 at the Fincantieri shipyard in Ancona, Italy, the Viking Mars will make its way to Valletta, Malta where it will be officially named on May 17 by godmother Lady Fiona Carnarvon, the Countess of Carnarvon. It will then embark on itineraries in the Mediterranean, Scandinavia and Northern Europe before repositioning at the end of the year for voyages around Australia and New Zealand.
The ship’s delivery comes as Viking celebrates its 25th anniversary, and follows several milestones including the launch of Viking Expeditions in January 2022 and its first purpose-built Polar Class vessel, the Viking Octantis, in March 2022. The company also named eight new European river ships, and by the end of the year it will have also welcomed a second identical expedition ship, another identical ocean ship, and new purpose-built vessels for the Nile, Mekong and Mississippi rivers.
The Viking Marks is the newest ship in Viking’s award-winning ocean fleet of identical sister ships. Viking’s ocean vessels feature 465 staterooms that can accommodate 930 guests, Scandinavian design, verandas in all staterooms, and abundant al fresco dining options.
