UnCruise Adventures fire update: Repairs begin aboard Wilderness Discoverer

TORONTO — UnCruise Adventures has provided an update on the Wilderness Discoverer following a fire on June 5.

As reported last week, a fire broke out in ship’s the engine room while sailing in Alaska’s Glacier Bay National Park and Preserve, prompting an evacuation of all 51 passengers. No injuries were report and the fire was extinguished.

According to UnCruise Adventures, Vigor shipyard in Ketchikan, Alaska will be facilitating the vessel’s repair process. It has already gone through inspections by regulators, underwriters and the company’s internal safety team.

It has been determined that the port main engine wet exhaust mufflers were the source of the heat/fire. The area damaged by heat is the size of a small chest freezer and was contained between two deep frames on the port side of the engine room. Outside of this small area, the damage is primarily from smoke and soot.

In response to the incident, UnCruise Adventures implemented a comprehensive plan to ensure the smooth continuation of guests’ experiences. Additionally, the company will reaccommodate all guests scheduled in the upcoming weeks aboard the Wilderness Discoverer, as needed, on a similar vessel.

“We deeply appreciate the understanding and patience demonstrated by our guests during this period. Our team is working tirelessly to minimize any inconvenience caused by the incident and to provide alternative arrangements that maintain the exceptional level of adventure and exploration that UnCruise Adventures is known for,” said Captain Dan Blanchard, owner and CEO of UnCruise Adventures.

Captain Blanchard added that the company would like to express its sincere gratitude for the support and kind words it has received from guests and travel advisors.
