0RAPID CITY, SOUTH DAKOTA – At least 22 passengers and two crew members have been taken to hospital after experiencing extreme turbulence during a JetBlue flight Thursday evening, reports CNN.
JetBlue Flight 429 was travelling from Boston to Sacramento when it encountered turbulence believed to have been caused by bad weather. At approximately 8:30 p.m. ET, said Katherine McMillan, a spokeswoman for the airline, the pilot diverted to Rapid City, South Dakota.
According to passenger Derek Lindahl, one female passenger rose two feet into the air at one point because she wasn’t wearing a seatbelt. One crew member had to be assisted off the plane by medical personnel.
JetBlue sent a replacement aircraft to Rapid City to take the remaining passengers to Sacramento, the airline said in a statement.
