TORONTO — Tri World Travel and Gary Cristello, Officer/Director of Tri World have pled guilty and have been convicted of a number of offences, according to the latest update from TICO.
Here’s a rundown of the convictions:
1. Tri World – Four counts of furnishing false information relating to the provision of travel services, through its outside sales representative, contrary to section 27 of the Act.
2. Tri World – Seven counts of failing to hold customer funds in trust account, contrary to s. 27(6) of the Regulation.
3. Cristello – Four counts of failing to take reasonable care to prevent Tri World from committing an offence, through its outside sales representative, of furnishing false information relating to the provision of travel services, contrary to s. 27 of the Act.
The following sentences were imposed:
Tri World
1. Fine in the amount of $10,000.
2. Restitution to consumers in the amount of $2,000.
Cristello
1. Fine in the amount of $5,000.
The pleas and convictions under the Act were joined with Tri World’s resolution of a concurrent administrative proceeding, through which further payments were made to consumers, noted TICO.
TICO has also charged Frank Cardona, a former outside sales representative, with one count of operating as a travel agent without registration. He is also facing criminal charges of fraud.
Both matters are currently before the Court.
