LISBON — A 126-year old statue has been reduced to rubble after a tourist climbed up the free-standing structure to take a selfie.
The Dom Sebastiao statue was in honor of Potrtugal’s King between 1554 and 1578 and stood in the Rossio Railway station in Lisbon before being turned into a pile of rocks.
The 24-year old tourist tried to flee, but was later caught by police and will face the courts for destruction of public property. His nationality has not been revealed.
Infrastructure Portugal said it currently doesn’t know when it would be fixed.
