G Adventures expands in Indonesia, launches 20 new trips

TORONTO — G Adventures is taking travellers deeper into Indonesia with 20 new small-group adventures designed to explore lesser-known regions while supporting local communities.

The newly launched trips, part of the Classic travel style, offer immersive experiences in remote destinations, including Sulawesi and Kalimantan, while also incorporating community projects in popular areas such as Bali and Lombok.

The expansion aligns with G Adventures’ commitment to responsible tourism by dispersing visitors beyond traditional hotspots and ensuring that tourism dollars benefit underrepresented communities. Yves Marceau, vice-president of product at G Adventures, says the new itineraries showcase the country’s cultural richness while fostering sustainable tourism.

“We wanted to bring something exciting to Indonesia that introduced G Adventures travellers to the true culture and adventure that exists there,” says Marceau. “Indonesia is undoubtedly a popular tourism destination, but most travel opportunities in the region focus on Bali and Lombok, while other locations and communities remain unseen.

“We wanted to revamp our trips to the country – and create entirely new ones – to give travellers the chance to spend more time at community projects in well-known islands, or travel deeper in the country, taking them much further off the beaten path. This brings the benefits of tourism income to other parts of Indonesia, but also gives travellers the opportunity to be truly adventurous and learn from the fascinating communities that live here.”

New Off-the-Beaten-Path Itineraries

Among the 20 new trips is the Sulawesi Adventure: The Culture of Tana Toraja. This nine-day journey takes travellers into the highlands of Sulawesi, where they will meet the Torajan people, known for their unique funeral traditions. Visitors may even witness one of these elaborate ceremonies, which families save for years to host, providing insight into a culture where life and death are deeply intertwined. The trip is priced from $1,199 per person, with departures beginning Dec. 14, 2025.

Travellers looking for a wildlife experience can opt for Indonesia: Borneo Orangutans of Tanjung Puting National Park. This seven-day trip includes a stay aboard a traditional klotok boat while navigating through the lush rainforests of Kalimantan. Highlights include visits to orangutan rehabilitation centres such as Camp Leakey, founded by renowned primatologist Dr. Biruté Galdikas. The trip starts at $2,089 per person, with departures from Nov. 8, 2025.

For those eager to explore Western Indonesia, the Highlights of Sumatra trip offers an exhilarating seven-day adventure through Gunung Leuser National Park, home to Sumatran orangutans. The itinerary includes jungle treks, river tubing, and visits to traditional Karo Batak villages. The trip is available from Oct. 8, 2025, with prices starting at $1,099 per person.

Expanding Beyond the Classic Collection

These new Classic trips complement other recently introduced itineraries under the Geluxe and Solo-ish travel styles.

The Solo-ish Bali itinerary caters to independent travellers looking for a mix of solo and group experiences. Over 10 days, travellers will visit waterfalls, temples, and a community project supporting people with disabilities. The trip departs from May 15, 2025, and is priced from $1,879 per person.

Meanwhile, the Bali and Komodo: Dragons, Rice Terraces & Cultural Ceremonies trip is a 12-day Geluxe Collection adventure featuring luxury accommodations, a visit to a firefly breeding centre, and an exploration of Komodo National Park to spot the world’s largest lizard. Departures start on May 16, 2025, with pricing from $4,579 per person.
