Toronto ‘agent’ charged with operating without registration

Convicted and charged: TICO’s latest updates

MISSISSAUGA — TICO has announced one conviction and two charges laid against individuals operating as a travel agent without being registered.

After being charged by TICO, Luis Da Silva, operating as Bwiti Canada, pleaded guilty to operating as a travel agent without registration, contrary to the Travel Industry Act, 2002. Da Silva was fined $4,375, inclusive of a victim surcharge, and received a two-year probation.

Rustic Mama Retreats Inc. has been charged by TICO with one count of operating as a travel agent without being registered. Jennifer Aide has also been charged with one count of operating as a travel agent without being registered, and one count of being an Officer and Director of a corporation and failing to take reasonable care to prevent the corporation from committing an offence. 

It is alleged that Rustic Mama Retreats Inc. and Jennifer Aide sold travel without TICO registration, specializing in both local and international retreats for women. Aide will appear in court on Dec. 13, 2023 in Cobourg, Ont.

Also charged with one count of operating as a travel agent without being registered is Bermuda Accommodations Inc. Fiona Campbell has also been charged with one count of operating as a travel agent without being registered and one count of being an Officer and Director of a corporation and failing to take reasonable care to prevent the corporation from committing an offence.

It is alleged that Bermuda Accommodations Inc. and Fiona Campbell sold travel without TICO registration, specializing in accommodation rentals in Bermuda. Campbell will appear in court on Jan. 12, 2024 in Toronto, Ont.

Individuals convicted in Court of offences relating to the Travel Industry Act, 2002 are subject to fines of up to $50,000 and/or prison terms of up to two years. Corporations are subject to fines of up to $250,000.
