Tour operators looking for answers after suspension of India visa services

TORONTO — Tour operators are working diligently to get more information on the India visa situation – and that includes Intrepid Travel.

As reported yesterday, in the wake of the growing rift between the governments of India and Canada, India has halted all visa services for Canadian citizens.

Tom Smith, Vice President, Sales and Marketing, North America for Intrepid Travel, told Travelweek how Intrepid is handling the news.

“Intrepid is actively working with our sources so that we can bring Canadian travellers the latest information,” Smith told Travelweek. “Our local DMC team in India allows us to tap into real-time updates on the ground.”

He added: “It’s currently unclear whether those who already possess an Indian visa are still eligible to travel to India or not but as soon as this has been clarified, we will be proactively reaching out our customers booked on trips to India to let them know what this means for them and next steps. We understand just how frustrating this abrupt announcement is for travellers. It’s an incredibly unfortunate situation for them to be stuck in the middle of and we hope to bring them clarity as soon as possible.”

The tensions between India and Canada, impacting visa availability for would-be travellers, comes just a few weeks after Egypt announced a new visa policy that also has ramifications for travellers.
