TORONTO — TICO’s board of directors has approved 82 claims against the Compensation Fund, totalling $134,324.99, to assist 149 consumers who did not receive the travel services for which they had paid.
On Dec.16, 2021, the TICO’ board approved 43 claims totalling $66,043.75 to assist 83 consumers:
- Angie’s All Seasons Travel Inc.
One claim to assist two consumers, totalling $3,917.18
- Flybe
One claim to assist five consumers, totalling $490.01
- Fly Jamica Airways
14 claims to assist 26 consumers, totalling $19,333.36
- Jet Airways
26 claims to assist 49 consumers, totalling $42,248.47
- Skymoon Travel & Tours
1 claim to assist 1 consumer, totalling $54.73
Meanwhile these claims totalling $15,405 were denied: Albarkah Travel and Tours Inc. (two claims for three consumers, totalling $5,405 – the claims were received beyond the filing deadline); and STS Tours (one claim for 20 consumers, totalling $10,000 – the claims were received beyond the filing deadline.
More recently, on Feb. 22, 2022 the TICO board approved 39 claims totalling $68,281.24 to assist 66 consumers who did not receive the travel services for which they had paid:
- Fly Jamaica Airways
20 claims to assist 35 consumers, totalling $29,675.12
- Jet Airways
12 claims to assist 19 consumers, totalling $15,105.97
- Sunmed Holidays Inc.
7 claims to assist 12 consumers, totalling $23,500.15
These claims totalling $9,520.52 were denied: Fly Jamaica Airways (one claim for two consumers, totalling $1,930.52 – the services were available to have been received); and Albarkah Travel and Tours Inc. (three claims for seven consumers, totalling $7,590 – the claims were received beyond the filing deadline).
