TICO board approves 11 claims against Comp Fund; TICO lays charges

TORONTO — The TICO board of directors recently approved 11 claims against the Ontario Travel Industry Compensation Fund totalling $62,012 to assist 37 consumers who did not receive the travel services for which they had paid.

The approved Ontario Travel Industry Compensation Fund claims are as follows:

  • Crystal Cruises: Nine claims to assist 22 consumers, totalling $58,246
  • Jacco Tours: One claim to assist 4 consumers, totalling $1,389
  • Luxury Travel Centre Inc.: One claim to assist 11 consumers, totalling $2,377
  • In addition, one claim was denied, for Crystal Cruises, for two consumers totalling $6,831. The claim was received after the legislated filing deadline.

CHARGED: WEATACH INC., O/A EVENTTOURS

Meanwhile TICO has charged Women Entrepreneurs in Advanced Technology (WEATECH) Inc., operating as Eventtours, with 12 counts of operating as a travel agent without being registered.

Liezl Albino has also been charged with one count of operating as a travel agent without being registered and one count of being an Officer and Director of a corporation and failing to take reasonable care to prevent the corporation from committing an offence.

It is alleged that Eventtours sold European spiritual pilgrimage packages to seniors. TICO has received complaints from consumers who paid Eventtours for travel that did not take place and refunds were not provided.

Liezl Albino will appear in court on April 14, 2023, at 1:30 p.m. at 60 Queen Street West, Toronto.

CHARGED: LUXURY TRAVEL CENTRE

TICO has also charged Luxury Travel Centre Inc. with one count of operating as a travel agent without being registered, four counts of failing to hold money in trust, and one count of failing to notify the Registrar of an address change.

Naroce Vignarajah has also been charged with one count of operating as a travel agent without being registered and one count of being an Officer and Director of a corporation and failing to take reasonable care to prevent the corporation from committing an offence.

Luxury Travel Centre Inc. had its registration under the Travel Industry Act, 2002 revoked on September 21, 2022.
