TORONTO — The Travel Industry Council of Ontario has appealed the decision of Her Worship Justice of the Peace Lauzon in the matter of Ron Greenwood and MKI Travel and Conference Management Inc. (MKI).
The following counts were appealed:
1. Finding Ron Greenwood not guilty of failing to prevent MKI from committing an offence of failing to deposit trust funds into the trust account (two counts);
2. Finding MKI and Ron Greenwood not guilty of an offence of failing to hold trust funds in the trust account (one count each);
3. Finding Ron Greenwood not guilty of failing to prevent MKI from committing an offence of failing to obtain the Registrar’s consent in advance of opening a second trust account.
MKI Travel and Conference Management Inc. operated in Ottawa and elsewhere in Ontario. The Ontario Travel Industry Compensation Fund has paid claims in excess of $2 million related to the closure of MKI in May 2013.
The matter will be heard at the Ontario Court of Justice located at 161 Elgin Street, Ottawa at a date yet to be determined.
