EDMONTON — Swoop is flying high following its first flight to San Diego International Airport from Edmonton yesterday.
The inaugural route, which departed Oct. 31 from Edmonton, was officially launched with help from Bert van der Stege, Swoop’s Head of Commercial and Finance during an inaugural ceremony at San Diego International Airport. He was joined by Myron Keehn, Vice-President, Air Services and Business Development, Edmonton International Airport, Kimberly Becker, President and CEO, San Diego International Airport, and Julie Coker, President and CEO, San Diego International Airport. Passengers were also treated to inflight refreshments and giveaways.
Edmonton-San Diego will operate 3x/weekly during peak season on Sundays, Tuesdays and Thursdays, with introductory fares starting at $99 all-in if booked by Nov. 7, 2021, ow while seats last, for travel until Jan. 30, 2022.
“We are thrilled to be bringing this new destination to the city of Edmonton and add San Diego to our growing list of nonstop destinations available for Edmontonians to explore,” said van der Stege. “Edmonton is an important part of both Swoop’s history and future and we remain as committed as ever to providing the region with always available low fares and connectivity to beautiful destinations like San Diego.”
As its western Canada base city, Swoop is expanding its capacity and flying from Edmonton to include nonstop service to 11 destinations across Canada, the United States and Mexico. This number will grow to 14 with service to Los Cabos, Cancun and Orlando Sanford scheduled to start in the coming weeks.
Last week, Swoop celebrates its arrival in Mazatlán, Mexico, also from Edmonton. On Dec. 5, it will kick off new nonstop service from Toronto to Punta Cana.
