CALGARY — Less than a month after it announced its first Caribbean route, low-cost carrier Swoop now says it plans to ramp up its sun destination service with new flights into Mexico, to Cancun, Mazatlzan and Puerto Vallarta.
John C. Munro Hamilton International Airport (YHM) will see twice weekly service to Puerto Vallarta International Airport (PVR) and three times weekly service to Cancun International Airport (CUN) starting Jan. 8, 2019 and Jan. 14, 2019, respectively.
Meanwhile Abbotsford International Airport (YXX) will get twice weekly service to Puerto Vallarta and twice weekly service to Mazatlan International Airport (MZT) beginning Jan. 12, 2019 and Jan. 20, 2019, respectively.
“Mexico continues to flourish as one of the most popular vacation destinations for Canadians,” says Steven Greenway, President of Swoop. “Combining Swoop’s ultra-low fare with the favourable exchange between the dollar and peso makes the value proposition of exploring Mexico enticing for families and budget travellers alike.”
Flights are now available for booking through to April 27, 2019.
And Swoop’s U.S. flights, announced Aug. 2 and starting this month, will head to Las Vegas, Phoenix, Fort Lauderdale, Orlando and Tampa Bay from Edmonton, Hamilton and Abbotsford.
Karen McIsaac, Swoop’s Sr. Advisor, Communications, says Swoop expects to have six aircraft in operation by the end of the year.
Asked in September if Swoop would be adding more sun routes, after the MoBay announcement, McIsaac said, “With the addition to our fleet, we are indeed looking at new routes that fit within our model of operating from low-cost airports on routes with enough market demand to consistently fill our 189 seat Boeing 737-800 aircraft. While new Caribbean destinations have not yet been confirmed, we are continuing to explore more sun destinations.”
Asked about the possibility of vacation packages, she added: “At this time we do not have plans to offer vacation packages, although we will evaluate different options as we mature.”
