TORONTO — Sunwing Airlines will launch new nonstop service from Toronto to the island of Cozumel this winter bringing one of the world’s best diving locations closer to Canadians.
Operated on state-of-the-art Boeing 737-800 series aircraft that seat 189 passengers, Sunwing Airlines’ new nonstop weekly service departs Sundays from Dec. 21, 2014.
Located above the second largest reef in the world, the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef System, the diminutive island of Cozumel (just 80kms long by 24kms wide) boasts over 30 sites where divers and snorkellers alike can expect underwater encounters with manatees, sea turtles, over 60 different species of coral together with a host of tropical fish including the elusive toadfish that is only found in these waters.
In addition to its diving pedigree, this laid back island also offers excellent natural and cultural encounters. Travellers can spot rare native birds on rainforest hikes in the Chankanaab National Park, observe black spiny-tailed iguana in the natural lagoon, explore ruined Mayan temples, try kite-surfing off one of the many sandy beaches or sample authentic Mexican cuisine in the sleepy island capital, San Miguel.
Favoured by couples, honeymooners and families alike Cozumel has its own blend of tropical beach relaxation and Sunwing Vacations offers a range of varied resorts catering to different travellers’ needs.
At the all-suite, adults-only Secrets Aura Cozumel, couples can enjoy an array of land and water sports at no additional charge. The resort also boasts one of the island’s largest spas and its own dive centre. Along with three on-site bars, four à la carte dining restaurants offer individual gourmet dining experiences and accommodation choices include Swim-Up Junior Suites accessing the hotel’s beachfront infinity pool and Ocean View Suites with private pool and solarium.
For a change of pace, the Park Royal Cozumel is a Mayan-style hotel with lush gardens nestled in a small cove. In addition to three pools, including an oceanfront infinity pool, guests also enjoy exclusive access to the beach and their own Beach Club. A supervised kids club with its own pool and waterslides, nightly entertainment, non-motorized water sports and buffet or à la carte dining in three restaurants are also available at no extra charge.
A one-week all-inclusive vacation to Cozumel starts from $845 plus $392 taxes per person staying at the Park Royal Cozumel on Jan. 4, 11 and 18.
