CHARLOTTETOWN — Tourism figures released Thursday say Prince Edward Island is enjoying a strong tourism season so far this year, due in part to a jump in visitors from Japan.
Visits from Japan were up 347 per cent in June compared to a year earlier.
Tourism and Culture Minister Robert Henderson says the latest numbers also show continued strength in key areas like overnight stays and air traffic.
The figures say June was the fifth consecutive month in P.E.I. where the number of room nights sold increased over the same month last year.
Local campgrounds and golf courses didn’t fare as well, with a one per cent drop in camping and a 9.7 per cent fall for golfing compared to last June.
