ST. JOHN’S, N.L. — The main runway at the St. John’s International Airport closed today to allow work to be done on it.

The airport authority says the closure will facilitate work associated with a $37.3 million airfield accessibility and safety initiative.

It will also allow for the implementation of an instrument landing system by Nav Canada.

The authority says it expects the runway will reopen fully in December.
