TORONTO — Few companies know the solo travel market as well, or follow the solo travel trends as closely, as Just You.
Starting with its name, and extending to its itineraries, hotel choices, tour partners and more, Just You is all about solo travel, full stop.
When the UK-based company got its start in the early 2000s, there were a few raised eyebrows. Some had their doubts about a business proposition focused solely on what was then a growing but still small niche sector.
Two decades later, solo travel is one of the fastest-growing demographics in the travel industry. And Just You is thriving.
“We’re continuing to see steady growth since the global pandemic and we’ve seen a really positive start to the year, with bookings tracking ahead of forecasts. We’ve seen an increase in the number of customers who are booking to travel within the next three months, and many of these trips are for ‘bucket list’ destinations,” says Charlotte Field, Just You’s Marketing & E-commerce Director.
Travelweek connected with Field for this latest instalment in our Solo Travel series.
Travelweek asked Field what Just You prioritizes with its itineraries. “Just You designs each of its holidays exclusively for solo travellers,” she said. “We guarantee Just You travellers a twin or double room of their own (not tiny rooms tucked away in the attic!) with no single supplement. Just You’s Product team works closely with suppliers across the globe to secure accommodation, which is perfectly located, so that travellers can either choose to eat there or have plenty of options very locally. Our itineraries are carefully crafted – we include all the must-see sights in our tours but we also recognize the importance of space and spare time for the solo traveller and so we build time to allow for exploring independently or for just sitting back and relaxing.”
Field adds that feedback from travellers about why they love Just You “is that although you are travelling solo, you are with a great group of like-minded travellers, and you are able to share the experience.”
She adds that every Just You holiday is accompanied by one of the company’s experienced Holiday Directors, who are both knowledgeable about the destination, and fun to travel with.
Just You’s product highlights for 2024 include an Ancient Athens & Greek Islands Cruise’ – Field says it’s the perfect way to combine a land and sea experience. Launching in spring 2024 is ‘A Mexican Adventure’, starting in Mexico City and working across the country to Cancun. “Travellers will discover a whole host of historical sites, packed with rich cultural traditions. There’s time to explore the great outdoors too, from beaches to canyons, vibrant markets to famous landmarks,” says Field.
Most popular for Just You right now? Europe, particularly Italy, says Field, adding “we’re seeing a lot of interest in India and Japan too.”
Travelweek also asked what Just You offers agents looking to tap into the solo travel market.
“Interest in the solo travel market is growing massively right now and we love to help agents grow their business so get in touch with us,” says Field. “We have a range of digital training resources to help agents sell our award-winning tours and we’re happy to share our expertise.”
The company’s return rate bodes well for travel advisors. “Just You customers are extremely loyal, once they have had the taste for a Just You holiday, they will be looking to repeat the booking for another of our great destinations,” says Field.
