Canadian travellers need not miss out on a favourite winter pastime while vacationing on Maui this winter. The Westin Ka’anapali Ocean Resort Villas is continuing its holiday tradition for a third consecutive year with its ice-skating in the tropics, open to resort guests as well as island visitors.
With the Westin Ka’anapali’s ‘Skating By the Sea, A Ka’anapali Holiday’, the four-diamond beachfront resort transforms its outdoor South Lobby Lawn into a holiday escape complete with a 1,800-square foot hybrid ice-skating rink boasting views of the Pacific and migrating humpback whales.
“This unique idea was introduced in 2012, in a partnership with BH Skating International, a company that had also created similar skating rink experiences in the past at W Westwood in Los Angeles and W Scottsdale in Arizona,” said Angela Nolan, general manager, The Westin Ka’anapali Ocean Resort Villas. “The rink’s surface is made with synthetic polymer and finished with a natural glide for a real ice feel, allowing the use of ice skates. This is an environmentally sound alternative to real ice as it doesn’t need refrigeration units, generators or electricity.”
Open to hotel guests and visitors, there is a US$15 fee for 30 minutes access to the rink and skate rentals. This activity is available daily, from now until Jan. 3, for adults and children ages seven and older.
