Royal Caribbean eliminates pre-cruise testing for most cruises

MIAMI — Royal Caribbean International has dropped pre-cruise testing for all guests, regardless of vaccination status, on most sailings.

In a message to travel advisors last week, the cruise line confirmed that as of Nov. 2, 2022, all travellers sailing from the U.S. and the Caribbean (both vaccinated and unvaccinated) are no longer required to take a pre-departure COVID-19 test – excluding sailings with stops in Colombia, Haiti and Honduras. Cruises from Australia and those from transatlantic cruises are also not included in the policy change.

For cruises from the U.S. and Caribbean with stops in Colombia, Haiti or Honduras, guests ages 12 and up who are not fully vaccinated have three days to take any type of PCR or antigen COVID-19 test before their cruise, regardless of the duration of the cruise. Those under the age of 12 do not have any testing requirements.

A guest is considered fully vaccinated 14 days after the required number of doses in their vaccine series have been fully administered.

For transatlantic cruises, all guests ages 5 and older must bring a negative test result for a COVID-19 test taken within two days before boarding day. The test must be supervised by a health professional (ie. doctor, pharmacy technician, public health worker or telehealth professional). Telehealth testing at home is accepted for vaccinated guests and must be conducted under live video supervision. Those under the age of four do not have any testing requirements.

For cruises from Australian, all guests ages two and above, regardless of vaccination status, must present a negative test result for a COVID-19 PCR test taken within two days before boarding day, or a self-administered rapid antigen test (RAT) within one day before boarding, for sailings of any length. Guests will be required to present a negative test result at time of boarding, either as a printout or email (PCR), or a picture of their negative RAT test on their phone or actual negative test itself. Guests under two years of age do not require testing.
