Riviera Nayarit reopens to tourists, awarded WTTC Safe Travel Stamp

RIVIERA NAYARIT — Riviera Nayarit, Mexico’s ‘Pacific Treasure,’ has officially reopened to international travellers.

Yesterday, June 15, marked the official reopening date of hotels, restaurants and businesses in Riviera Nayarit’s tourism sector. In adherence to strict protocols and health measures put forth by state officials, all reopened businesses are operating at 30% capacity to ensure safe social distancing on property.

Though some businesses and services in the tourism sector opened yesterday, others are gradually reopening in the upcoming weeks as they finalize preparations to safely welcome back visitors. Travellers should contact preferred service providers directly to confirm dates and details before booking.

“We are excited to begin reopening our doors to international travellers who can rest assured Riviera Nayarit is prioritizing the health and safety of visitors and locals alike,” said Marc Murphy, managing director for the Riviera Nayarit CVB. “The last couple of months we have been working hand in hand with the state of Nayarit to determine a set of regulations mandatory for local establishments to reopen safely, and are beyond grateful for the support we have received from destination partners thus far.

“We’ve seen them invest in implementing these changes in their establishments, helping us to continue to raise the bar as it relates to implementing best practices in tourism and sustainability.”

With  the Riviera Nayarit’s Tourism Wellness and Best Practices Guide providing a streamlined approach to health and safety, the destination has earned the World Travel & Tourism Council’s highly regarded Safe Travel Stamp, granted to destinations and hotels around the world that have adopted WTTC-approved health and hygiene protocols.

All travellers arriving at Puerto Vallarta International Airport (PVR), Riviera Nayarit’s closest airport, will undergo temperature screenings via thermal imaging cameras upon arrival and departure.

Riviera Nayarit is the latest hotspot in Mexico to reopen to tourists. Quintana Roo, which includes 12 destinations in Mexico such as Cancun, Riviera Maya and Playa del Carmen, started its gradual reopening on June 8. As such, Air Canada Vacations welcomed back its first guests to Cancun last week.
