Porter’s YOW service takes off for Boston, New York-Newark and Thunder Bay

TORONTO — Porter Airlines has three new routes from Ottawa under its belt, with service launching yesterday to Boston, New York-Newark and Thunder Bay.

The new routes, which all departed on March 27 from Ottawa International Airport (YOW), are part of Porter’s broader expansion plan in Ottawa and its commitment to the region. The plan also includes the construction of brand new maintenance hangars at YOW, which will serve as a primary facility for the airline’s new E195-E2 fleet.

With yesterday’s launch, Porter is the only airline providing year-round daily direct flights to Boston and Thunder Bay from Ottawa.

“This builds on our already extensive network in Eastern Canada and substantially increases the number of destinations served directly from Ottawa,” said Kevin Jackson, executive vice president and chief commercial offer, Porter Airlines. “Porter connects passengers coast to coast, with the level of service and generosity that economy travellers deserve.”

Introductory roundtrip fares, including taxes and fees, start at $377 for Boston (running 1x daily); $367 for New York-Newark (2x daily); and $366 for Thunder Bay (2x daily).

The new daily nonstop routes are served by 78-seat De Havilland Dash 8-400 aircraft. Service includes premium snacks and free beer and wine served in glassware for all passengers. A number of one-stop connecting routes have been created with the introduction of these flights.

Porter currently operates eight nonstop routes from YOW, with Charlottetown scheduled to become the ninth on May 17, 2023.
