TORONTO — Sunwing Travel Group has announced that a new Planet Hollywood resort is coming to St. Maarten, on one of the island’s best beaches.
The new 450-room resort will be “a destination unto itself for dining and entertainment” and a haven for vacationing celebrities, says the Group. Planet Hollywood is known for its authentic Hollywood memorabilia, plus the resort will also offer luxury accommodations, a 16,000-square-foot high-end casino, dining venues including Guy Fieri’s Burger Joint, a modern conference centre, fitness facilities, the PH Spa and a beach club.
The new resort will take shape on the Sonesta Great Bay site on Great Bay Beach. Sunwing purchased the 257-room Sonesta Great Bay from The Maho Group last year. Hurricane Irma struck the island in September 2017 and the resort closed.
Sunwing Travel Group signed its blockbuster deal with Planet Hollywood earlier this year, announcing plans for two resorts, one in Costa Rica in October 2018, and the other in Cancun in 2019.
Sunwing says that with the addition of this latest resort development, the Group has now made an investment commitment of over US$600 million into bringing the iconic Planet Hollywood brand to key destinations internationally as part of the company’s rapid expansion strategy.
At Planet Hollywood Resorts guests can ‘Vacation Like a Star’ with everything from music architecture to help set the vibe, to Hollywood lighting “to make sure everyone looks fabulous”. There are themed dining and curated entertainment experiences, modern rooms where guests can ‘Sleep Famously’ with the custom designed Phabulous bed and blackout curtains.
Planet Hollywood has also invested in convenience with the Plugged In system, enabling a keyless and cashless environment for guests, unlimited WiFi, free calling to North America and most of Europe, and a PHTV channel. Guests can upgrade to Star Class to get upgraded amenities, back stage access to exclusive facilities like the Green Room Lounge and a private beach club, their own in-room rider, discounts on resort facilities, and the services of their own agent to help maximize their stay.
Sunwing recently announced that its 2018/19 winter schedule will include St. Maarten flights starting Feb. 28, 2019 with direct service from both Toronto and Montreal, plus exclusive packages to both Sonesta Ocean Point Resort and Sonesta Maho Beach Resort, Casino & Spa.
