TURKS & CAICOS — The Canadian-owned Wymara Resort + Villas in Turks and Caicos now boasts a picture-perfect in-ocean pool.
At 130 feet long by 30 feet wide, the pool provides some 3,900 square feet of crystal-clear luxury on famed Grace Bay Beach.
Canadian-born Bruce Maclaren, owner of Wymara Resort + Villas, was the driving force behind the pool’s creation. He says his inspiration came from his time in Australia. The pool has a shallow end from three to five feet deep (depending on the tide) and a deep end that drops six to nine feet, with a soft, sandy bottom throughout.
“While ocean pools aren’t just an Aussie thing, they do inspire a kind of fervor there that borders on the fanatical,” says Bruce Maclaren. “They’re probably more in the public eye now than ever. Maybe it’s Instagram — they’re so seductive to photograph. But having experienced the benefits of ocean pools and the communities that evolve around them, I thought, well, maybe we can do this here.”
The natural swimming pool is fringed by palm trees, manicured lawn, and bright white sand and clear turquoise waters Turks and Caicos is famous for. It’s located adjacent to Wymara’s one, four and five-bedroom villas along the newly formed Sunset Cove Beach.
The pool gets replenished with fresh seawater from the Atlantic, and is carved out of the coastal rock and lined by a timber deck that spans the entire length of the pool. It features a refreshment bar and is lined with stylish loungers and umbrellas for shade.
Says Maclaren: “I couldn’t be happier with the results. With views of the bay and up the cliff to the villas, it’s hard to imagine a more soothing setting to start or end the day off.”
Wymara Resort + Villas recently introduced a new Penthouse Package, priced per bedroom and featuring $200 per day, per bedroom dining credit. The limited-time offer is ideal for families and small groups who want to make the most of their precious holiday time, says Maclaren. Resort guests can also enjoy VIP Fast Track service at the airport, private transfer to the resort, and a special welcome treat. Pricing (per bedroom) starts at US$1,385 from June – October, with a three-night minimum. For more information visit wymararesortandvillas.com/packages. The offer is fully commissionable to travel agents.
One last bit of news from the resort: new to the Wymara team, Miguel Carrillo is now Director of Sales and Marketing. Carrillo joins Wymara from Malliouhana Resort in Anguilla by way of Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts where he worked at various resorts for close to 20 years.
