NEW YORK – Peregrine Adventures, part of the Intrepid Group, is venturing into new territory with the addition of Romania to its extensive product range.
Launching in June 2018, ‘Secrets of Romania’ was created in response to a 157% growth in demand for Eastern Europe travel last year, as well as a 56% surge in bookings to Romania seen by Peregrine’s sister brand, Intrepid Travel. Also, according to the UN World Tourism Organization, Eastern Europe has seen a 273% increase among international travellers since the collapse of the Berlin Wall, soon approaching its 30th anniversary.
“Considering overtourism’s increasing impact on local communities, the decision to expand our Eastern European product range for summer aims to spotlight less crowded alternatives to the continent’s hot spots during their peak season,” said Leigh Barnes, regional director for North America, Peregrine Adventures.
Priced from US$2,376, ‘Secrets of Romania’ includes a tour of Sighisoara, a UNESCO World Heritage Site home to Vlad the Impaler, the inspiration behind Count Dracula, a rose and car ride through ‘The Woodlands’, as well as a home-cooked meal at a Viscri resident’s house. Also included are four-star accommodations, a local trip leader, all transfers, various activities, some meals and taxes.
In other Peregrine news, the tour operator is giving travellers that extra push to book Europe this year by extending its 30% off sale on Europe Adventure Cruising for 2018 departures. The promo, which originally ran until April 23, has now been extended through May 25, 2018, for travel now through Dec. 31, 2018.
Sample cruise itineraries include ‘Cruise the Hidden Gems of Greece’, ‘Cruising Iceland’s Wild West Coast’, ‘Cruising Spain, Portugal and Morocco (Lisbon to Malaga)’; and ‘Cruising Spain, Portugal and Morocco (Malaga to Lisbon).
