No matter what cruise ship reigns supreme, another one will top it – and that’s exactly what happened when Quantum of the Seas arrived on the scene.
The headline for this edition of ‘It Happened This Week’ is: ’16-deck, 168,666-ton, 4,180-passenger Quantum of the Seas makes its debut’
The ship’s official launch happened a few months before this story ran, when Quantum took to the seas as the lead vessel in Royal Caribbean’s then-brand new Quantum Class of ships.
Brand new innovations that made their debut onboard Quantum of the Seas included the RipCord by iFLY skydiving simulator, the North Star observation tower, and, of course, the Bionic Bar complete with robotic bartenders.
These features proved popular and in the intervening years, more Quantum-class ships followed: Anthem of the Seas (2015) and Ovation of the Seas (2016), plus Quanutm Ultra Class ships Spectrum of the Seas (2019) and Odyssey of the Seas (2021).
Now, of course, Royal Caribbean is gearing up for its latest masterpiece: Icon of the Seas. The 7,600-passenger ship, with 20 decks and 250,800 tons, will set sail in January 2024.
