COSTA MUJERES  — Let me be very clear: it is impossible to be bored at Planet Hollywood Cancun.

On a recent trip to the luxurious Costa Mujeres property – one of Sunwing Travel Group’s Blue Diamond Resorts, and one of more than 20 Blue Diamond Resorts properties now part of Marriott International’s Autograph Collection – we found out first-hand just how much there is to do at this beautiful ‘Hollywood’ style resort.

Earlier this week we detailed Planet Hollywood Cancun’s accommodations and dining experience, plus the overall vibe at the property. This is a fun, sophisticated property ideal for a wide range of clients.

Today we’re sharing some of the experiences you can have on-site. There are so many activities, we decided to dedicate an entire article to them! Note that Planet Hollywood Cancun has a cinema worthy of the greatest movies, and a conference centre on two floors, among the largest in the Riviera Maya. Perfect for weddings!

AND … ACTION!

Although its location is a bit removed from the bustling centre of Cancun’s hotel zone (around 40 minutes’ drive), it’s easy to stay at the resort for your entire stay without feeling like you’re going in circles.

For those wishing to explore Yucatán, Nexus offers several excursions, including a trip on a luxury catamaran to the island of Isla Mujeres, a must-see.

There’s a ton of activities for kids and kids at heart, says Jonathan Iriarte, GM, Planet Hollywood Cancun.

“We have a thematic water park with dinosaurs and pirates. In addition, our Kids Club has five different fun areas. That’s not to mention Planet Play with the trampoline, virtual reality … this is paradise for families, for parents and for children. We have everything!” says Iriarte.

Among the free activities at the resort, the iconic cinema offers a different schedule each day. It is the only cinema in an all-inclusive in Mexico. Note that there are several sessions each day and that the evening session at 9 p.m. is for adults only. In-room, guests can order films at a cost of $17 for 24 hours.

Another essential free activity: the lazy river. Several hundred metres long, it offers a relaxing tour through the heart of the hotel – even with an option to stop at a bar that seems to come out of a cave!

Throughout the day, an entertainment program is offered including a foam party on Tuesdays. For more privacy, you can also rent a private cabana with swimming pool. Cabana packages start at US $149 for the day. There are also free water activities, without reservations, such as paddle boarding.

Planet Play offers trampolines, billiards, virtual reality and arcade games (some for an extra fee). Among the paid but essential activities, the surf simulator ranks right up there as a must-do. The resort also has a state-of-the-art gym, tennis and basketball courts, mini-golf, table tennis and more! There are a total of five pools in all (including one exclusive to the Adult Scene section).

There is also an on-site spa for a bit of relaxation.

EVENING ENTERTAINMENT

Every night at Planet Hollywood Cancun there’s a thematic evening related to the world of cinema and music – from Silent Discos, to an Elvis concert, to the circus.

For the traditional Friday night Hollywood party, vacationers can don their best glam outfits and pose on the red carpet next to the Oscars statues.

Evening shows and entertainment are followed by lively music at the main bar, and there’s always the nightclub.

ALSO ESSENTIAL: COVID PROTOCOLS

Planet Hollywood Cancun is doing everything it can to smooth the process of travelling during a pandemic. It’s possible to make an appointment upon your arrival to do your PCR test on site. A testing centre is installed in the heart of the complex. The collection service is prompt and professional.

“Since our opening, we have had very few cases of COVID-19,” says Iriarte. “It has happened, but it can happen in any hotel. We support our customers in the process by providing them with a test. If their test is positive, we take them to another room specially designed to receive them and we offer them a special rate so that they can quarantine in our hotel with complete peace of mind.”

Iriarte adds: “Regarding the protocols, we are carrying out the recommendations of the Mexican government. We are certified by the government. Our site is very big; we don’t have small spaces. Whether you’re at the pool or at the beach, you have the option of not being close to other vacationers. This is one of the strengths of the hotel.”
