NIAGARA FALLS — Brrr, it’s cold out! How cold is it? Cold enough to freeze over the entirety of Niagara Falls.
As much of North America combats a massive cold front that has caused temperatures to drop well below zero, the popular tourist destination is revelling in the icy blast, turning into a wintry wonderland that has tourists and locals alike gawking and snapping pics.
Photos of a frozen Horseshoe Falls have popped up on social media, drawing comparisons to the fantastical landscapes found in TV series ‘Game of Thrones’.
Temperatures in Canada have reached record lows this past week, with Edmonton and Yellowknife feeling like -40 degrees. Ottawa and Toronto fared a bit better with temps dipping to -20 with the windchill. In Nova Scotia, electric poles have snapped in half due to the cold, leaving 158,000 people without power, and in major cities across the country, New Year’s Eve celebrations were cut short due to the chill.
