LAS VEGAS — McCarren International Airport in Las Vegas is stirring the pot these days with newly introduced weed bins, designed exclusively for the disposal of marijuana.
Although Sin City is technically pot-friendly (adults over 21 can possess up to an ounce of marijuana legally), there’s a separate ordinance that bans possession on airport property. So McCarren came up with the genius idea of introducing 13 of these weed bins as a courtesy to customers who need to ditch their blunts before boarding their flight.
What service!

The bins can’t be mistaken for regular garbage bins, as they’re bright green and labeled “disposal for prescription or recreational drugs”. Plus, they’re all bolted to the ground in case anyone has the bright idea of running off with a bin full of weed.
And to prevent any sticky fingers from reaching into the bins in search of souvenirs, the bin’s unique design prevents anyone from putting their hands inside. “The drawer pulls out; you drop your stuff in and you close it. You can’t really get your hand in there,” Christine Crews, McCarran spokesperson, told the Las Vegas Sun.
The airport plans to introduce seven more weed bins in high-traffic areas outside of the airport.
