Nassau Cruise Port welcomes record-breaking number of passengers in 2024

NASSAU — Nassau Cruise Port (NCP) has celebrated a major milestone by welcoming 5.6 million cruise passengers in 2024, marking its second consecutive year of record-breaking growth.

In 2023, NCP handled 4.4 million passengers, up from 3.2 million the year before – a steady and impressive upward trend.

As the largest and busiest transit cruise port in the region, NCP remains a key pillar of The Bahamas’ tourism economy. Cruise visitors accounted for approximately 61% of the country’s total 9.1 million arrivals in 2024. The economic impact of this influx is substantial, contributing approximately $2.6 billion in annual tourism revenues and creating opportunities across a wide range of industries.

Retailers, restaurants, tour operators, and local artisans continue to benefit from increased cruise traffic. The port’s ongoing expansion and modernisation have also driven workforce development, generating jobs in both established sectors and emerging industries, while opening doors for a new generation of Bahamian entrepreneurs.

“We are incredibly proud to reach this significant milestone for the second year in a row,” said Mike Maura, Jr., CEO of Nassau Cruise Port. “This achievement is a testament to the hard work, dedication, and collaboration of our talented team, our valued partners, and the Bahamian people. We could not have reached this point without the unwavering support of our stakeholders, including the Government of The Bahamas, our cruise line partners, local businesses, and the community at large. Together, we are shaping the future of Bahamian tourism, and I am excited to see the continued growth of Nassau Cruise Port as a gateway to The Bahamas and a source of opportunity for all.”

Looking ahead, Nassau Cruise Port has ambitious plans for further expansion and improvement. Enhancements to facilities, improved transportation links across New Providence, new family-oriented recreational experiences, diverse dining options, and sustainable practices are set to elevate the port’s standing as a leading cruise hub. Additionally, NCP remains committed to advancing downtown revitalisation initiatives to enhance the overall visitor experience.

“Our success story is far from over,” Maura, Jr. added. “The future promises even more growth for The Bahamas and its residents, and more incredible Authentically Bahamian experiences for our visitors from around the world.”
