More flights to Cuba starting this month

TORONTO — Cuba will get more lift starting this month with several major tour operators.

As reported yesterday in Travelweek Daily, Sunwing is gearing up to add Varadero back into its network in mid-December, with flights from Toronto and Montreal.

December will also mark the first post-COVID flights to Varadero with Transat, also from Toronto and Montreal.

Hola Sun/Caribe Sol will restart operations with new airline OWG on Dec. 18, with two weekly flights to Cayo Santa Maria from Toronto and Montreal.

And ACV, after successfully launching Cayo Coco and Varadero, is expanding to Cayo Santa Maria as well with additional departures from Toronto and Montreal.

The return of so many flights to Cuba from the Canadian market is welcome news, says the Cuba Tourist Board.

“These flights will be the first arriving in this destination since March, but more importantly, they will provide airlift to clients going to other destinations such as Cienfuegos, Trinidad and Zapata peninsula,” says Lessner Gomez, Director of the Cuba Tourist Board.

Gomez also noted that FITCUBA 2021 will be held in Varadero from May 3 – 8, 2021. “Those attending the fair will see the numerous works aimed to improve all the services offered in this destination that were carried out during the paused of activities caused by COVID-19 pandemic,” says Gomez.

Those projects include: the full renovation and upgrading of all the facilities at Plaza America (the main headquarters of FitCuba); the opening of new restaurants and shops; more watersports and car rentals services; extension of the WiFi connection to all the areas including the beach; the restoration of the iconic Xanadu mansion; the restoration of Varadero Golf Club’s clubhouse; and the inauguration of Varadero Boulevard with a wide range of services with a variety of restaurants, shops, Habanos House, arts and crafts plaza, and more.

“There is no doubt that with the good news about the vaccine rolling out soon and the increased capacity, the pristine Cuban beaches are closer than ever and waiting for you,” said Gomez.
