CALGARY — The Calgary International Airport dealt with bogus threats and a false gun report on one of the year’s busiest travel days.
Calgary Airport Authority spokesman Reid Fiest says the airport received threats, but police determined there was no risk to employees or passengers.
Police say officers were also called to investigate a report of a rifle.
But police say there was no gun and it was likely just a musical instrument as a band was there at the time.
Parts of the international terminal were temporarily locked down, but Fiest says by late afternoon operations were resuming.
The airport said in a release earlier this week that Thursday would be the busiest pre-Christmas travel day with an expected 49,000 people passing through.
“There were some impacts to passengers in the terminal. There were some impacts to passengers who were on incoming flights and we apologize for those delays and thank everyone for their patience,” said Fiest.
“Our key message is that safety always has to be our priority in everything that we do and we were just making sure that everyone was safe this afternoon.”
