TORONTO — From cooking to yoga to the arts, Intrepid Urban Adventures’ newly launched virtual experiences are designed to bring global destinations to a traveller’s doorstep.
The company, which serves as the day tour arm of Intrepid Travel, is offering these one- to two-hour online sessions over Zoom as yet another iteration of its ongoing product innovation. Each session can be booked as either join-in or private classes and are open to all levels.
The collection currently includes experiences from Poland, Russia, India and Mexico, with plans for expansion to other destinations in the future.
In addition to connecting travellers with local guides, the sessions also aim to help economic recovery. Priced at $40 and below per person, they help support local guides who rely on foreign tourists to support themselves and their families, and who have been impacted by the global cessation of travel due to COVID-19.
Sample classes include the following:
- Frida Kahlo Watercolour Painting Class: Participants will learn about Mexican pop art and create a watercolour masterpiece inspired by the worlds of Kahlo. A local artist in Mexico City will guide the session while highlighting Kahlo’s life as an artist and feminist icon. Availability: weekdays at 6:00 p.m. EST
- Yoga & Ayurveda Class: Under the guidance of a professional yoga teacher in India, this online experience focuses not only on learning basic yoga moves but also on debunking yoga myths. Participants will learn about the history of yoga and Ayurveda and practice a few easy moves and breathing exercises. Availability: daily at 7:30 a.m. EST
- Traditional Pierogi Cooking Class: Participants will make authentic Polish pierogi from scratch under the guidance of a Krakow-based cook. They’ll also get the chance to practice some Polish phrases. Availability: Daily at 12:00 p.m. EST
