Hotel closures announced for Solmar, Curtain Bluff and Coconut Bay

TORONTO — The list of hotel closures continues to grow amid the COVID-19 pandemic, with Solmar Hotels & Resorts, Curtain Bluff in Antigua, and St. Lucia’s Coconut Bay Beach Resort & Spa being the latest to shutter their doors.

Following the recommendations of local authorities and the World Health Organization, Solmar Hotels & Resorts has temporarily paused operations at all of its properties until further notice. A tentative reopening date of May 2, 2020 has been set.

For guests with existing reservations at any of Solmar’s properties, the company’s extended cancellation policy allows them to cancel a reservation up to 24 hours before their stay. For reservations made under the non-refundable reservation policy, the company is honouring deposits towards another date.

CURTAIN BLUFF, ANTIGUA

For the first time in its 58-year history, Curtain Bluff closed its doors on March 24 ahead of an island-wide lockdown on March 28.

Prior to the pandemic, the hotel’s plan was to close at its usual time in mid-August and begin another summer of major refurbishments. However, as the virus spread into its traditional markets, cancellations forced the hotel to temporarily shutter ahead of time.

Curtain Bluff plans to reopen on Oct. 24, 2020, as scheduled.

For guests whose deposited vacations will be affected from April to August, the hotel is honouring a room credit on their return reservations for a maximum of 24 months. For those who choose to postpone their booking, the hotel will also add a US$200 resort credit to their updated booking.

Curtain Bluff’s reservations team will reach out to guests via email or telephone after April 14 to assist with rebookings. It is recommending guests to only contact the hotel if they have not heard from them by April 20.

COCONUT BAY BEACH RESORT & SPA, ST. LUCIA

Coconut Bay Beach Resort & Spa and Serenity at Coconut Bay will close from April 1 through May 15, 2020, with a reopening planned for May 16, 2020.

The resort has updated its policy to ensure guests can change or cancel their reservations without penalty and has also extended its reservations office hours from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 12:00-5:00 p.m. on Saturdays. The reservations team can be reached at reservations@cbayresort.com or call +1-758-456-9999.

Guests with an existing reservation made directly with the resort for a stay arriving between March 16 and June 30, 2020 can change their dates or cancel at no charge for a full refund up to 24 hours before their scheduled arrival.

Any new reservation made directly with the resort between March 16 and June 30, 2020 for any future stay can be changed or cancelled at no charge for a full refund up to 24 hours before their scheduled arrival.

If a guest has an existing reservation booked via a travel agent, online agency, airline or other third party, they are encouraged to contact them directly to assist in cancelling or changing their booking.
