TORONTO — Highland Explorer Tours, part of The Travel Corporation family, is encouraging travellers to give back with a new volunteer opportunity in Scotland.
The six-day ‘Isle of Skye Volunteer Adventure is an inspiring local community project on the Sleat Peninsula taking place in October 2023 and March 2024. Combining both sightseeing and voluntourism, the tour includes two ‘MAKE TRAVEL MATTER’ Experiences: a volunteering project with the Sleat Community Trust and a visit to the National Centre for Gaelic Language and Culture, Sabhal Mòr Ostaig.
“We are thrilled to invite clients to Scotland and participate in this meaningful project, which will tremendously benefit the local community and natural habitats for years to come,” says Graeme Ward, Managing Director of Highland Explorer Tours and Radical Travel Group. “Our MAKE TRAVEL MATTER Experience will make a positive environmental impact in this community.”
Highland Explorer has partnered with the Sleat Community Trust to help transform the community-owned forest of Tormore and make it more accessible to residents and the wider community. Each morning, guests will help with tree planting, accessible path building and repair. The native oaks and sycamore they’ll be planting will be used as a source of sustainably managed timber.
After a morning of volunteering, guests will enjoy a guided tour of romantic castles and Fairy Pools, sample whisky and learn Scottish Gaelic phrases at Sabhal Mòr Ostaig with an exclusive tutoring session. They’ll also embark on excursions to the iconic Eilean Donan Castle, which was featured on the ‘Highlander’ television show and the James Bond film ‘The World is Not Enough.’ Other highlights include the Armadale Castle and Gardens, and a visit to the distillery at Torabhaig, the second-ever licenced Single Malt Scotch Whisky Distillery on the Isle of Skye.
