"We are turning a corner": Air Canada anticipating recovery in demand

Here’s a first look at Air Canada’s flights to U.S. and international destinations, for summer 2021

MONTREAL — With travel restrictions easing for fully vaccinated Canadian travellers and permanent residents, and with more reopenings potentially weeks away, airlines are starting to ramp up their schedules.

Last week Air Canada released its domestic schedule for summer 2021, with flights out of 50 airports in Canada, and three new routes.

Air Canada has also posted details about its international flights, with many routes resuming in the weeks ahead.

As reported on Travelweek.ca, yesterday Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said further easing of Canada’s travel restrictions could be weeks away, not months, provided vaccination rates stay strong and COVID numbers continue to trend down.

Earlier the federal government announced that effective 11:59 p.m. on July 5, fully vaccinated Canadian travellers and permanent residents returning to Canada from abroad would no longer be required to quarantine, and would not need to do the day 8 PCR test. The pre-departure and on-arrive PCR tests are still mandatory.

Canada’s travel advisory against non-essential travel is still in effect.

The federal government has also extended the closure of the Canada-U.S. border to July 21, however based on Trudeau’s remarks yesterday, it’s possible this could be the last closure renewal. The government is also pursuing a 2-track system of proof of vaccination, starting with the ArriveCAN app, allowing travellers to upload proof of full vaccination either as documents or photos.

Here’s a look at Air Canada’s U.S. and international flights for the coming weeks and months, with flights so far using the four Canadian gateways currently approved for international travel (Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver and Calgary) …
