ORLANDO — Hard Rock Hotels will open its first property in Germany in 2020 with the Hard Rock Hotel Berlin Checkpoint Charlie.
The 372-room hotel is set to be part of a larger multi-use project including retail spaces, offices, residences and a curated exhibition space commemorating the history and symbolism of Checkpoint Charlie and the Berlin Wall.
The property will be “reflective of the area’s musical past and spirited present”, and centrally located adjacent to the renowned Checkpoint Charlie, one of the city’s most significant tourist attractions in the Mitte district, said the company. The hotel itself is set to rise on a site where the Berlin Wall once stood.
“Hard Rock is pleased to announce our first hotel in Germany. The location at Checkpoint Charlie – where East met West – is symbolic of much that is right in the world and aligns well with the values and visions of our brand,” said Hamish Dodds, chief executive officer at Hard Rock International.
Recognized as the curators of the world’s greatest music memorabilia collection, with more than 80,000 legendary items, Hard Rock says carefully selected memorabilia will adorn the hotel. One of the most remarkable pieces will be a section of the original Berlin Wall. Currently located in Orlando, this historic piece will soon be making the 7,725-kilometre journey back home to become an integral part of the hotel’s design.
Hard Rock Hotel Berlin Checkpoint Charlie will also feature a rooftop pool and lounge with sweeping views overlooking Checkpoint Charlie and Berlin’s skyline. The property will also feature a contemporary Hard Rock Cafe, Body Rock workout facility, Rock Spa featuring the brand’s revolutionary Rhythm & Motion spa menu and a Rock Shop. The property will also cater to the needs of groups, event planners and meeting professionals with 970 square metres of ballroom and meeting space. See hardrockhotels.com.
