From skiing to summer fun: Japan’s Rusutsu Resort is unmatched

TORONTO — In the heart of Japan’s north Island of Hokkaido, surrounded by mystical volcanic mountains, serene lakes, and enchanting forests, lies world-renowned Rusutsu Resort.

Perched at the base of stunning Mt. Shiribetsu and offering world-class skiing, Rusutsu Resort is an all-encompassing interconnected resort complex complete with three hotels and a wide array of amenities, activities, and culinary options.

In the winter months, the cold Siberian winds sweep across the Sea of Japan collecting moisture and drops copious amounts of dry powder snow on the island of Hokkaido, making it arguably the snowiest place on earth. With this abundant snowfall and amazing mountainous terrain, it’s easy to see why this region has been beckoning powder hounds and discerning travellers for years.

“Rusutsu Resort is Japan’s most awarded ski resort at the World Ski Awards, often referred to as the ‘Oscars of the travel industry,’” says Koki Jinnohara, Marketing Department Assistant Director.

With its powder paradise, luxurious accommodations, and commitment to excellent hospitality, Rusutsu offers an exceptional experience for every taste and style.

Rusutsu: Powder snow mecca

What truly sets Rusutsu apart is its snow quality, says Jinnohara: “Boasting an annual 14-metre snowfall, Rusutsu provides top-quality powder snow amidst enchanting forest landscapes and breathtaking views of Lake Toya and Mount Yotei.”

Guests can experience skiing through perfectly spaced, powder-filled tree runs, wide open bowls, and meticulously groomed pistes. Rusutsu boasts 1,378 acres of ski terrain, with 42 kilometers of runs spread across 37 slopes. Three distinct peaks offers their own vistas and challenges: West Mountain, East Mountain, and the highest of the three Mount Isola, topping out at 994 metres above sea level.

With the largest number of lifts and gondolas of any single resort in Hokkaido, Rusutsu ensures swift and efficient access to its diverse ski area. From gentle slopes for beginners to challenging bowls and side-country terrain for advanced riders, Rusutsu caters to skiers and snowboarders of all abilities.

For those who can’t get enough of the slopes during the day, Rusutsu offers exciting night skiing experiences. Under the glow of floodlights, guests can carve down freshly groomed runs, or enjoy the rare experience of skiing deep powder snow under the stars, adding an extra dimension to their Japan adventure.

Whether it’s mastering the basics or exploring the side country, Rusutsu offers excellent ski and snowboard schools, mountain guiding, and specialized lessons for kids via their Samurai Kids’ program.

Also important to note, Rusutsu Resort is a partner of Vail Resorts, giving holders of the Epic Pass, Epic Local Pass, and Epic Australia Pass five consecutive days of skiing for free.
