RICHMOND, B.C. – With the season’s first opening of the Fraser River for commercial sockeye salmon fishing on Monday, Tourism Richmond highlighted options for tasting the catch and learning about how fishermen do their job.

Restaurants throughout Richmond and along Steveston’s waterfront boardwalk will feature fresh sockeye this month and into September, the marketing organization said.

In Steveston, the dishes include wild B.C. salmon and chips at the Sockeye City Grill; salmon rillette tapas at Tapenade Bistro; and West Coast salmon chowder from Blue Canoe Waterfront Restaurant.

As well, at the Gulf of Georgia Cannery National Historic Site, visitors can learn about salmon and the canning process on daily guided tours.

On weekends, local salmon fishermen will give demonstrations at the Cannery, covering activities such as knot tying, baiting and net minding.
