LOS ANGELES — Fiji will be opening up to visitors once more starting this December after a near two-year closure due to the pandemic.
The announcement comes on the heels of Fiji reaching its goal of 80% vaccination of the eligible population with both doses.
While travel restrictions will be lifted in December, entry requirements will remain in place, including a full vaccination policy, a negative RT-PCR test taken 72 hours prior to departure from a home country, a rapid test taken 48 hours after arrival at a resort, as well as an additional test prior to returning back home, based on individual home country requirements.
Unvaccinated children under the age of 18 will be able to travel to Fiji accompanied by a vaccinated adult. Travel insurance is highly recommended.
“We are ecstatic that Fiji will open its borders to international visitors by the end of the year,” says Tourism Fiji’s CEO, Brent Hill. “This is the moment we have been planning for nearly two years now and I can assure the world that Fiji is safe and ready to welcome travellers back. The islands are just as beautiful – if not more beautiful – than ever and the locals just as warm and friendly. Fiji is the vacation the world needs and deserves right now and we can finally offer that again starting December.”
Ruth Daly, Regional Director for North America, added: “We are excited to be working closely with our travel advisors, wholesalers and other trade partners to get the word out to your travellers that Fiji is open for bookings again.”
Fiji is putting health and safety top of mind with its Care Fiji Commitment, whereby travellers can book certified resorts, transportation and experiences that include 100% vaccinated staff.
The country’s reopening will be well-timed to the launch of Tourism Fiji’s new Matai program for Fiji specialists, expected to debut by the end of the year. More information can be found at www.matai.fiji.travel.
This December, packages to Fiji start at US$1,299 including six nights’ accommodation, international airfare, all meals, transfers and more, available at www.fijiairways.com. Additional packages for 2022 will be available soon on www.fiji.travel.
