ZAGREB — The Zagreb Tourist Board is happy to announce the return of Festival of Lights Zagreb, set for March 16 – 20, 2022.
This Festival sees the Croatian city turn into a spectacular light show, as streets, squares, parks, buildings, and landmarks become the focal point of innovative light installations. Light and colour bring new energy to the usually quiet and magnificent Upper Town, while the lively Lower Town will become more dazzling than ever, says the tourist board.
Zagreb’s first-ever Festival of Lights took place in 2017, a four-day celebration that showcased audiovisual installations and projections at seven different locations: Vranicani Square, Gradec Plateau, Jesuit Square, Klovićevi dvori Gallery, Lotrščak Tower, Grič Tunnel, and Tomićeva Street.
After that first successful year, the Festival continued in 2018 and 2019. However like so many events, the Festival was cancelled in 2020 and 2021 due to the pandemic.
For 2022 the Festival of Lights Zagreb will be bigger and brighter than ever, reaching new areas of Zagreb, says the tourist board, and featuring live performances by musicians, artists, and dancers. Alongside these performances, modern technology and stunning visual effects will be combined to create a unique experience for all generations during the Festival’s five days, say organizers.
“Light follows dark, and spring follows winter – that is how it has always been,” says the tourist board. “Times may have changed, but the joy people feel when light fills their lives is timeless. Zagreb is a city designed to be enjoyed outdoors, and it is during spring when the days are longer, and all activities move outdoors. Citizens of Zagreb welcome another long-awaited season of social activities, whether it is hanging out or enjoying countless cups of coffee with friends, along with the cafes of the city squares and streets. That beginning starts with the Festival of Lights Zagreb.”
