BRETTON WOODS, NH — Omni Mount Washington Resort is a historic hotel – and then some – with a legacy that goes all the way back to 1902.
The family-friendly property is one of the best-known and well-loved resorts in New Hampshire, with a postcard-perfect backdrop of the Presidential Mountain Range, and surrounded by the White Mountain National Forest.
In summer, the hotel offers everything from bike rides, hikes and horseback or carriage rides, to swimming (with indoor and outdoor pools), family-friendly six-hole golf to fishing complete with equipment rentals and clinics. And kids 12+ can join in on the Bretton Woods Canopy Tour, featuring nine ziplines, two sky bridges and three rappels.
In the winter months, there are alpine and Nordic trails for all ages and abilities on skis or snowshoes, Fat Bikes for winter biking, and sleigh rides. Nordic skiers and snowshoers can also rent a small sled (known as a pulk) so even the smallest family members can still enjoy the great outdoors, courtesy of mom or dad towing them along.
For novices looking to try a new sport, or anyone eager to hone their skills, Omni Mount Washington Resort offers private and semi-private lessons for golf, tennis, fishing and skiing.
While there’s plenty at the resort to keep everyone engaged, Omni Mount Washington is also in close proximity to numerous attractions including the world-famous Mt. Washington Cog Railway, plus Story Land, Santa’s Village and Clark’s Trained Bears. The nearby Crawford and Franconia Notches also offer hiking opportunities, roadside waterfalls and historic sites.
Family-friendly accommodations at the Omni Mount Washington include the popular Family Suites, comprised of multiple bedrooms with shared bath. Luxury Family Suites include a king bedroom, plus two twin bedrooms and large separate living space with working fireplace. And the all-new Presidential Wing features private balconies in each guest room.
For dining, the Omni Mount Washington Resort has a breakfast buffet in the newly renovated Main Dining Room, and grab ‘n go items with specialty coffee, tea and pastries in Morsels. Throughout the day and evening, a variety of dining venues offer special children’s menus for lunch and dinner. Rounding out the day, the resort serves up S’mores around the fire. Kids will also enjoy the Pedicake or Pirate Package in The Spa for kids age nine and under. There’s also family game night in the Great Hall, and special presentations by visiting artists and lectures featuring giant puppets, wildlife exhibits and astronomy programs.
A new program that just started in February 2022 encourages kids to tap their inner chef. Each guest age 10 and under receives a Junior Chef Kids Tote Bag at check-in with snacks and activities, plus a Say Goodnight to Hunger postcard they can decorate. If they turn it in to the front desk, Omni Hotels & Resorts will donate a meal to Feeding America.
And as if clients needed any more reason to book a getaway at the venerable property, Bretton Woods (which is a part of Omni Mount Washington Resort) faces north with little light pollution, making it one of the more accessible places in New England to view the Northern Lights. Typically the months of March and September are the best times to catch the Northern Lights here.
