EDMONTON — The 2015 season finale of the Red Bull Crashed Ice cross downhill world series will be staged in Edmonton on March 14, organizers announced.

The track, the longest of the season, will start in the city centre and wind down to the North Saskatchewan River Valley.

Ten Red Bull Crashed Ice qualifier events will be held across Canada in January and February.

Edmonton is a new location for the series, which will kick off in Saint Paul, Minn., on Jan. 24. Other stops include Helsinki, Finland, and Belfast, Northern Ireland.

Ice cross downhill is a combination of hockey, boardercross and downhill skiing.

The Alberta capital offers “a perfect urban backdrop” for the spectacle, said Christian Papillon, ice cross downhill sport director. “Edmonton’s final showdown will have the most impressive and challenging track of the whole season.”

The 2014 season finale in Quebec City drew over 100,000 spectators, organizers said.
