ORLANDO — Rumours of a new Disney airline have been making the rounds but Disney says there’s no such plan in the works.
The rumours were first reported on fan site JustDisney.com, which said Disney was set to acquire smaller regional airlines in order to launch flights out of Orlando to major U.S. airport hubs like Detroit, Chicago, LaGuardia and LAX. There were reports of Mickey Premium Ice Cream bars, Disney songs played over speakers during boarding, and character appearances prior to takeoff, plus complimentary checked first bags for passengers who stay at a Disney resort within 48 hours of their flight.
With wildly successful theme parks around world, Adventures by Disney guided family vacations, and three new ships joining the Disney Cruise Line fleet in 2021, 2022 and 2023, an airline didn’t seem that far-fetched as the latest addition to Disney’s travel and tourism empire. But a Disney spokesperson says there’s no truth to the rumours.
