TORONTO — With snow already blanketing slopes across North America, Alterra Mountain Company and itspremier Ikon Pass are poised to deliver this upcoming ski season, as the travel industry found out at a recent Toronto event.
Backed by significant investments and expansions, the company is redefining the guest experience while expanding its portfolio of global destinations.
Canadians can also enjoy Kids Ski Free Week (Dec. 7-13), where children at participating resorts – such as Tremblant and Blue Mountain – can enjoy up to seven free lift tickets.
“This season is incredibly exciting,” said John Doherty, Senior Account Manager at Tartanbond Communications on behalf of Alterra Mountain Company. “With acres of new terrain at places like Deer Valley and Steamboat, plus ongoing investments to enhance the skier experience, Ikon Pass holders can expect not just variety but also elevated quality on the slopes.”
$300 MILLION IN INVESTMENTS FOR A PREMIUM EXPERIENCE
Alterra Mountain Company’s commitment to enhancing its resorts is evident in its recent $300 million investment plan, which includes expanding terrain, upgrading lifts, and improving snowmaking capabilities.
Deer Valley Resort is opening 300+ new skiable acres, three new lifts and expanded parking as part of its massive 3,700-acre expansion. This will ultimately make it one of North America’s largest ski resorts.
Steamboat Resort has completed its ‘Full Steam Ahead’ project, featuring 655 acres of new advanced terrain and the Wild Blue Gondola– the longest and fastest gondola in the U.S.
“Steamboat’s gondola is a great example of how Alterra is improving not just offerings for Ikon Pass holders, but the entire on-mountain experience,” Doherty said.
Additional upgrades are underway at Mammoth Mountain, Sugarbush, and Stratton, ensuring enhanced reliability and capacity across the Alterra portfolio.
THE ALLURE OF IKON PAS
Ikon Pass has emerged as a go-to option for skiers seeking both flexibility and premium perks. It offers unlimited access at select resorts and a set number of days at others, spanning over 50 destinations worldwide.
Beyond skiing, pass holders benefit from discounts on accommodations, heli-skiing credits with CMH and Mike Wiegele Helicopter Skiing, and group ticket discounts – where fellow skiers in a pass holder’s group can save 25% on lift tickets.
“Ikon Pass isn’t just about skiing; it’s about crafting year-round experiences,” Doherty explained. “From exclusive discounts on lodging to summer activities, it’s a comprehensive option for adventurers.”
For Canadian travellers, the Ikon Pass opens doors to standout resorts like Tremblant in Quebec, SkiBig3 in Alberta, Blue Mountain in Ontario and B.C.’s Revelstoke Mountain Resort and RED Mountain.
With so many options, it caters to all types of skiers– from those seeking local trips to families planning longer excursions. “For Toronto-based skiers heading to Blue Mountain or those venturing out to Colorado or Utah, there’s something for everyone,” said Doherty.
NEW DESTINATIONS & PROMOTIONS
Ikon Pass’s network continues to grow, with exciting additions like St. Moritz in Switzerland and Sierra-at-Tahoe in California for the 2024/25 season.
These expansions bring even more value to the pass, allowing travellers to explore iconic slopes worldwide.
In Canada, this December marks the introduction of Kids Ski Free Week (Dec. 7-13), where children at participating resorts – such as Tremblant and Blue Mountain – can enjoy up to seven free lift tickets.
“This is a fantastic way for families to take advantage of early-season conditions and introduce young skiers to the joys of winter sports,” Doherty said.
THE FUTURE OF MOUNTAIN ADVENTURES
With robust investments, new destination offerings, and a commitment to enhancing the skier experience, Alterra Mountain Company and Ikon Pass are shaping the future of mountain recreation.
From the thrill of new terrain at Steamboat and Deer Valley to the unique perks of heli-skiing in British Columbia, Ikon Pass caters to adventurers who demand flexibility and quality.
As Doherty summed up: “This season, the Ikon Pass isn’t just a ticket to the mountains – it’s an invitation to explore, connect, and create memories on a global scale.”
