Turks and Caicos sees nearly two million visitors in 2024

PROVIDENCIALES — The Turks and Caicos Islands welcomed nearly two million visitors in 2024, marking a strong year for tourism in the destination.

From January to December 2024, the multi-island nation recorded a total of 1,959,563 arrivals, including both air and cruise passengers. Air arrivals reached 734,308, reflecting a 10.66% year-over-year increase compared to 2023. Meanwhile, cruise arrivals soared to 1,225,255, an impressive 30.48% jump from the previous year.

March (77,559), June (72,583), and July (71,958) were the top-performing months for air travel. Although cruise traffic started slowly in early 2024, it rebounded significantly, peaking in July with 136,990 passengers. August (108,454) and October (110,329) also saw strong cruise arrivals. In total, 311 cruise ships docked at the Grand Turk Cruise Centre in 2024, representing a 19.16% increase over 2023.

“I am elated at the continued upward trajectory of our tourism sector,” said Minister of Tourism Josephine Connolly. “Through the efforts of Experience Turks and Caicos and our hotel partners, our ‘Beautiful by Nature’ island has become one of the top trending destinations in the Caribbean. As we enter the 2025 season, I am optimistic about even greater success and excited for the many initiatives planned to further enhance our tourism industry and ensure widespread benefits for our citizens.”

Strengthening Relationships with Travel Advisors

Experience Turks and Caicos invested in training and education for travel advisors throughout 2024, conducting both virtual and in-person sessions. In February, the team hosted nine Virtuoso agents from Twil Travel Agency in Canada. This was followed by a June visit with 11 Virtuoso advisors from the US and Canada, and in December, 41 UK-based travel advisors participated in the Aspire annual retreat.

Additionally, Experience Turks and Caicos held a UK roadshow in July, visiting Twyford, Cotswold, and Birmingham, and participated in the Virtuoso Travel Show in Las Vegas, training over 100 luxury travel advisors. The destination was also recognized among the Top 10 Highest-Rated Virtuoso Trainings and as a top training partner in Q2 2024.

Expanding Accommodation Options

Turks and Caicos’ accommodation landscape saw exciting developments in 2024. The 92-room South Bank by Grace Bay Resorts opened on Nov. 1, while The Strand welcomed guests from Nov. 23. The Palms completed an $18-million renovation in December, featuring a new Mexican-fusion restaurant, Si Si, as well as an upgraded oceanfront infinity pool and reimagined pool deck. The Alexandra Resort also reopened with updated accommodations, including 41 Oceanfront and Garden Suites and Studios.

Further elevating the island’s luxury offerings, Amanyara, Wymara Resorts and Villas, Como Parrot Cay, and Seven Stars Resort and Spa received prestigious accolades in the 2024 Forbes Star Awards, earning four-star status.
