Ireland Funds Canada event features speaker Mark Carney

TORONTO — At The Ireland Funds Canada event this past Friday, travel professionals found themselves listening to – and in some cases, shaking hands with – the next Prime Minister of Canada.

Mark Carney, named the new leader of the Liberal Party of Canada on March 9, addressed The Ireland Funds Canada luncheon at The Fairmont Royal York in downtown Toronto on March 7.

Tourism Ireland’s Director, Canada, Sandra Moffatt, and her team made sure many members of the Canadian travel industry were in attendance, including Collette GM Brett Walker, and Ian Duffy, founder, Royal Irish Tours.

Carney will soon take the reins from Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, followed by a national election in the very near future.

According to The Irish Times, Carney, who was born in Fort Smith, NWT, has Irish roots, with at least one of his grandparents emigrating to Canada from Co. Mayo some 100 years ago.
