TORONTO — Costa Rica’s second-busiest airport has reopened, much to the relief of travellers, tour operators and airlines.
Daniel Oduber Quiros International Airport (LIR) in the Costa Rican province of Guanacaste is back in business following runway repairs in the wake of Tropical Storm Sara.
As reported on Nov. 19, airlines including Air Canada, WestJet, Air Transat and Sunwing were activating flexible change policies and / or moving LIR departures to SJO after LIR’s abrupt closure.
The Costa Rica Tourism Board issued a statement on Nov. 20: “The Costa Rica Tourism Board are pleased to share news that Liberia International Airport (LIR) has resumed full operations at 9 a.m. local time this morning, following the successful completion of runway maintenance. This is ahead of previous re-opening expectations.”
The tourism board advised impacted passengers to check flight schedules with their airline directly for the most current updates.
